IMPORTANT CANSKATE REMINDERS: SAFETY, EQUIPMENT & ARENA PROCEDURES
posted Oct 23, 2026, 4:03 PM
βοΈ Let’s Gear Up for a Safe Session!
Before hitting the ice, let’s make sure our skaters are ready to go! A few quick equipment checks can help keep everyone safe, comfortable, and having fun.
-
Helmets on and secured! All skaters must wear a properly fitted helmet with every strap fastened and clipped. A loose helmet or unsecured strap may not provide proper protection and could increase the risk of discomfort or injury.
-
Gloves are a must! All skaters must wear gloves to help protect their hands when they fall on the ice.
-
Right skate, right foot! Please ensure your child's skates are on the correct feet and tied securely to provide proper foot and ankle support. Skates that are too loose or too tight can cause discomfort and may increase the risk of injury.
π¨π©π§ Parents & Guardians: We Need Your Help!
Thank you for helping us keep our sessions safe, organized, and fun for everyone! Please review these important reminders before your skater arrives.
-
π·οΈCollect your nametag at the table near the arena entrance! Every week, your skater’s nametag will be on the table at the front entrance of East York Memorial arena. Please collect it and have your skater clip it to their jacket! They need their nametags so they know which group to go to!
-
πͺ Right door, please! Please ensure your skater enters and exits through the correct doors for their session. Signs are posted throughout the arena to help you find the right entrance and exit.
-
π Drop off, then take a seat! Once you have dropped your skater off at their designated entrance, please head to the stands to watch them skate. We love having families cheer on our skaters!
-
ποΈ Parents must remain in the building. Parents and guardians are required to stay in the arena for the entire session. If your child needs to use the washroom, gets injured, or requires assistance that a coach or PA cannot do, you must be available to help.
-
π The ice is for registered skaters only! For everyone's safety, only skaters registered in our programs are permitted on the ice during sessions. Parents, siblings, spectators, and anyone wearing shoes must remain off the ice at all times.
-
π Cheer them on! Positive encouragement goes a long way! Please use supportive language to keep your skater motivated and engaged. Encourage them to keep moving, skate around the ice, and follow the designated circuits rather than sitting on the ice or standing still. Let's help our skaters build confidence, stay active, and have fun!
Thank you for being such an important part of your skater's journey! Your encouragement and cooperation help make East York Skating Club a safe, positive, and welcoming place for everyone. π

Hi Everyone,
Halloween is almost here, and we're excited to celebrate with some Halloween-themed skating sessions this week!
We invite all of our Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Fundamentals, and Rising Stars skaters to come dressed in their Halloween costumes on the following dates:
π Sunday, October 25
π Thursday, October 29
A few important costume reminders:
-
Costumes must allow skaters to move freely and safely on the ice.
-
Please ensure costumes are warm enough for skating or can be worn with appropriate layers.
-
No masks, costume weapons, or accessories that could pose a safety risk.
-
Avoid long, loose, or dragging costume pieces that could get caught in skates.
-
All required skating safety equipment, including helmets, must still be worn.
Costumes are completely optional, but we encourage everyone to join in the Halloween fun!
We can't wait to see everyone's costumes. πβΈοΈ
